Haikumuse | Summer 2009

by Madeleine Findlay

dark cove
a pair of wood ducks takes flight
colors and all

under the rock
a map of things other –
pressed earth

a crow soars –
between his feathers
just blue

slantwise
gladiolas green and pink –
height of summer

by Tom D'Evelyn

I spread out
near a sleeping homeless man
sunny Piscataqua

ocean-going yacht
calmly makes an appearance
in the Piscataqua

Summer noon
the silk river and the black
ant on my bookbag

lost in the dazzle
the whole Piscataqua
crows in the distance

with my face
this close to the river
the coolness

This river deck
last night was a dance floor
petals everywhere

cloud glare
in my nook by the river
somebody’s bedclothes

no parting words
how fast, how full this spring day
the Piscataqua

garden party
between the flagstones
cherry blossoms

Between love shouts
the whisper of the Piscataqua
against the piers

Memorial Bridge
spring clouds shine in the salt surge
moving up river
